Do You Accept Batman’s Apology?

OK. I was going to leave this alone. The big Christian Bale tirade was just a little too hot for me to handle.

It’s really a mind-blowing experience listening to it…as in…my mind couldn’t comprehend the events that would have to take place for someone to compeletey melt down on set the way he did. I think the only thing I can compare it to is Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore when he takes a golf club to the clown at the mini-golf course…. still makes me laugh. Bale’s rant though is just scary. Shocking. If the acting biz makes you that crazy, count me out.

Mr. Bale has now, officially, announced an apology, and rightfully so. Calling his outburst on the set of Terminator Salvation this past summer , “out of order beyond belief.”

He also went on LA’s radio show Kevin & Bean and said “I have to tell ya, it’s been a miserable week for me… I know I have a potty mouth, everybody knows that now. The thing that I really wanna stress is that I have no confusion whatsoever, I was out of order beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk, I regret that, and there is nobody that has heard that tape that it’s hit harder than me. So I make no excuses for it, it was inexcusable and I hope that is absolutely clear…”

Even Christian’s mother publicly announced she was upset. Good to know he has a caring mom. Sounds like he could take heed to some mama advice.

If you want to read more about the story you can find it at Starpulse. However, unless you are ready to hear some serious expletives do not listen to the video clip. The youtube video has the audio from the Bale outburst, in case you haven’t heard it. However I also realize that since I told you to not listen to it, you probably will. Just know that you have been warned!

The big question though remains. Is Bale’s apology legit? Do you accept it? Do we still love Batman?!

Does Heath Ledger Deserve An Oscar?

For me that’s a pretty easy question to answer. And my answer, is yes.

We all know how huge “The Dark Knight” was this past year in 2008. Making over a billion dollars, the film broke records across the world. And trust me, it wasn’t because of Christian Bale or Maggie Gyllenhaal. The movie was a hit because of Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. Anyone that has seen TDK can tell you that it was the Joker that truly made the movie.

It was announced today that Ledger has been nominated for an Academy award for Best Supporting Actor with TDK. His contenders include Josh Brolin for Milk, Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Doubt and Michael Shannon for Revolutionary Road.

As much as I loved Downey Jr. in “Tropic Thunder,” (The white dude playing a white dude disguised as another black dude never gets old) in my book it can’t get any more impressive than Ledger’s Joker. Anyone who has seen the movie will know that. So just give Ledger the big gold statue already.

“Valkyrie” Is Good, But Don’t Expect Surprises

I caught the movie “Valkyrie” last night and it pretty much delivered what I expected.

Some are saying they don’t like the film because it is predictable. The problem with those movie-goers is that they are looking at the film as a fictional thriller, something that can have twists and turns and leave you on the edge of your seat. In reality, Valkyrie is a historical reenactment of true events that took place at the end of WW II.
If you go into the movie with the mindset that it is a sort of historical re-play, then you shouldn’t be disappointed. The acting is great and Tom Cruise, as usual, puts on an intriguing performance. (Please note: I said Tom’s ACTING…not personal beliefs. haha)

But enough jib-jab. Let’s talk language. Before the movie I was thinking the same thing you probably are; how annoying and inaccurate will it be to watch a movie in which Germans are speaking English? Well kudos to director Brian Singer who gave us a creative way to start the film in which Colonel Stauffenberg (played by Cruise) actually speaks German, which slowly dissolves into a translation of English. This gives us the feel that they are speaking their native tongues throughout the movie, and we, the audience, is simply hearing the translated version. Very neat and very well done in my book.

But enough jib-jab. If you are a big history buff, or simply fascinated with WW II and Nazi Germany, then you will like Valkyrie. If you are looking for something more, (you were more of a math or English nerd than a world history one) then don’t waste your time.

Valkyrie really does leave you on the edge of your seat though, especially when they are literally feet away from Hitler in multiple scenes. Just don’t expect a twist at the end. (there is a real historical one, but I won’t give it away!)

And on a final note, this movie also gives you a different look at Nazi Germany in that you see in detail (and in my case for the first time) that there was actually a secret anti-Hitler Germany. It really opens your eyes to give you an alternative view at good ole’ Deutsch land. The final scene was even the real location of where the events took place in 1944 Berlin. But you’ll have to see the movie to find out which scene I’m talking about!

Valkyrie gets 3 stars out of 5.
